In anticipation of tropical storm Irene, Storrs Pond is closed today.  Because of the large expected rainfall, water was released from the pond.  In the meantime, water gushes in from Camp Brook.

This weekend, Storrs Pond hosts the swimming and part of the trail running for f the Stoaked Off Road Triathlon.  This annual event started with a trail run on Saturday morning, then the standard triathlon at 1 pm.  The main triathlon is on Sunday at 9 am.

The children’s race started at 4 pm at Storrs Pond.  Organizer Chad Denning encourage the group to keep in mind that this was “an event, and not a race.”  Although thunder theatened, there was enough of a pause to allow the competitors to cross the pond, then complete the running section, and finish with a mountain bike ride.

To help the Upper Valley Community stay cool during this heat wave, the Storrs Pond Pool will stay open until 8:00pm from Thursday July 21 through Saturday July 23.

The forecast is for highs of 95º for Thursday, 94º on Friday, and then 92° on Saturday.

Come down to the pond and pool to beat the heat!

Dartmouth Outing Club took advantage of a spectacular sunny day for training in orienteering and rafting.  Although Storrs Pond has no white water, the teams in the inflatable rafts were able to practice their maneuvers and teamwork.
