This Saturday Oct 19th we will be running the 2nd Annual Hanover Cyclocross Race (www.bikereg.com/Net/hanover-cyclocross) at Storrs Pond Recreation area. Races are 40 to 60 minutes in length and are on a closed course completely self-contained within the Storrs Pond recreation area.
What is cyclocross you ask? It’s a bike race on a short course of grass, dirt, and pavement with obstacles that require the rider to dismount and run with the bike. Check out this video by Ben Silberfarb from last years race:
This is a great, spectator friendly event and we invite you to come out and race if you’re a cyclist (you will need either a cyclocross bike or a mountain bike without bar ends). If you’re not a regular USA Cycling license holder you can purchase a one day license on site for $10 that will allow you to race Men’s Cat5 / Women’s Cat 4.
If you’re not a racer, we invite you to come out and watch the race. The biggest fields are likely to be the Men’s 4/5 and 3/4 races at 9AM and 12 noon. The P/1/2/3 races will go off at 1pm (women’s) and 2pm (men’s).
We also need volunteers to help with the race. If you can help out, then please email Michael Rea michaelerea@GMAIL.COM.
We will have Wicked Awesome BBQ serving pulled pork sandwiches and BBQ chicken wings. In addition, the nearby Hanover Food Coop (43 Lyme Road, Hanover, NH 03755) sells sandwiches, drinks, sushi and other good stuff including vegetarian options. You can ride to it from the venue very easily. Bring your cowbell and cheer our racers! Let’s make this a great community event and show the New England Cyclocross community what an amazing and beautiful place we have here in Hanover.
Please note this also means that Storrs Pond will be closed to vehicular traffic, particular on Friday Oct 18 as we setup the course and also on race day, Sat Oct 19 as our course uses the paved and dirt roads as well as parking areas. We would love to have everyone come down to spectate, just please use caution that you aren’t crossing the course during the race so we can keep all of our racers and spectators safe.
Parking will be in the Oak Hill stadium lot.
Hope to see you there,
Mike Whitfield, Race Director
